Disney Wish: Inside Stateroom vs. Verandah – Which One's Right for You?

Ahoy, friends! Back in April, our family set sail on the gorgeous Disney Wish and stayed in a Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah. Most recently, we cruised again (because yes, we're that Disney Cruise family now) and opted for an Inside Stateroom to keep things a little more budget-friendly.
So, how do these two compare? If you're wondering whether to splurge on the Verandah or cozy up in an Inside Stateroom, here’s our honest experience sailing both!
Verandah Stateroom (Deluxe Oceanview with Verandah)
✅ Pros:
Spacious Layout – It felt super roomy, especially with young kids! Plenty of space to walk around and stretch out.
Dual Bathrooms – Total game-changer. One has a shower/bath combo with a sink, the other has a toilet and sink, which made getting ready so much easier.
The Verandah! – We loved having that private outdoor space. Watching the sunrise with coffee and unwinding before bed on the verandah was magical. ✨
Extra Safety Locks – For those worried about little explorers, Disney includes safety locks on the verandah doors.
❌ Cons:
Higher Price Point – It’s a bit more of a splurge.
If You’re Nervous About Balconies & Little Kids – Although it felt very safe, I get it! The verandah can still be a stressor if you’ve got toddlers on the go. You can also opt for an ocean view stateroom!
Inside Stateroom
✅ Pros:
Most Budget-Friendly Option – Great for short cruises or if you’re planning to be out and about enjoying the ship.
Still Has a Full Bath/Shower Combo – We didn’t lose access to a tub, which is a big win for families with littles.
Dark for Sleep – No windows means total darkness—perfect if you're light-sensitive or love a deep sleep.
Bonus tip: If you’re sailing on the Disney Dream or Disney Fantasy, the Inside Staterooms feature a “Magical Porthole”, a live feed of the outside with fun Disney animations sprinkled in! It’s such a fun touch that gives you a peek at the outside world while keeping that immersive Disney feel. The Disney Wish, however, does not have this feature, but worth mentioning!
❌ Cons:
More Compact – Definitely tighter than the Verandah room, especially if you’re traveling with more than two adults, easier with littles.
No Natural Light – Not ideal for those who are claustrophobic or like to wake up with the sun.
What They Both Had:
Queen-size comfy bed (slept like a dream!)
Pull-down bunk and convertible couch – perfect sleeping space for kids
Ample outlets, including USB and USB-C
Light-up vanity mirror – loved this for getting ready.
Storage and closet space (Verandah had a little more)
The same level of Disney magic from Stateroom Hos (including adorable towel animals)
Stateroom Locations: A Little Comparison
April Sailing – Deck 6 Midship
Verandah Room
Calm seas = barely felt movement
Close to the Grand Hall, dining rooms, and entertainment
Very central, super convenient
September Sailing – Deck 11 Forward
Inside Stateroom
Slightly choppier seas = felt a bit more movement
We were on the same deck as Marceline Market, Mickey & Friends Festival of Foods, pools, and beverage stations!
Bonus: Easy access to Pirate Night and deck parties
Pro Tip: Disney Cruise Guarantee Staterooms
On both of our sailings, we actually booked using Disney Cruise Line’s “Guarantee Stateroom” option, which is an awesome way to save if you’re flexible and is typically cheaper!
Here’s how it works:
You choose your room category (Inside, Oceanview, or Verandah)
Disney picks your actual stateroom for you (you don’t choose the exact location)
You’ll never be downgraded, and sometimes you might even get an upgrade (not guaranteed, but it happens!)
It worked great for us! We didn’t know our room locations until closer to the sailings, but both assignments were comfortable and convenient, especially for quick 3-night cruises. This is definitely a cost-effective way to cruise Disney while still enjoying all the magic. You can check out any special offers here.
Verdict: Which Would We Choose Again?
Since both of our sailings were 3-night cruises, we felt totally content with the Inside Stateroom the second time. We weren’t in the room much and were focused on soaking up everything the Disney Wish had to offer!
If the kids were older, we might’ve struggled more with the limited space, but while they’re little, it worked!
That said… I still dream of verandah mornings with coffee and ocean views.
So what’s the plan for next time?
For a 5-night cruise or longer, we’d love to try an Oceanview or go back to a Verandah stateroom. For a quick, cost-effective Disney escape, the Inside Stateroom definitely gets our stamp of approval.
