Pregnant while in Disney - Part 1 - Navigating around the Parks!

Hi all!

I wanted to start a pregnancy series on my blog because I get this asked a lot. I get asked many questions on how I navigated the parks, what rides, great places to rest, baby announcements/gender reveals, etc. I am a pro at this all now. When I was pregnant with my daughter we lived in Florida and we would of course still go to the parks. From when I was around 6 weeks pregnant to my due date we would go to the Parks (also Universal) weekly. When I was pregnant with my son it was different, we lived in Buffalo and had Talia. We did go twice while I was pregnant with Jace though. So I will also talk about going around with a toddler plus being pregnant. Remember I am not a medical professional so please always consult with your doctor or midwife before doing anything you are not sure of. I was not high risk so I was cleared to do anything I could do while pregnant.

Walking around Disney without being pregnant can already be rough especially if you are on vacation so when your pregnant this all like triples. I had many rough days and then also great days while in the parks. My first advice is to utilize the Baby Centers in the 4 Parks! Sadly at this moment Disney Springs, Water Parks, and the Resorts do not have one. I cannot stress this enough! I am so mad I didn't while I was pregnant with Talia. Yes they are for babies but also so convenient if you need a place to sit for a few. They either have AC or heat on depending on the weather which is a great way to cool off or warm-up. They also have water coolers which are always so key when you are walking, staying HYDRATED! Depending on which Baby Center you visit there could be ample seating. My favorite was in Animal Kingdom, their center is huge and lots of seating space. When I was pregnant with Jace and Talia needed a nap, I went there and relaxed with her while my family did other things. I felt so much better after that 30 minutes of sitting. The baby center at Studios is my least favorite, honestly, it feels like a closest in Guest Relations. I rarely used that one but I used the other 3 many times. I will get into the baby centers more when talking about babies in the parks. Please know that you can use them as well and take advantage of that rest!

I spoke a little on it above but the biggest thing is making sure you know you and your body. Do not over push yourself. Stay hydrated and make sure you are eating enough. I cannot stress this enough. Typically we are super hot here no matter what time of year and it's so easy to become dehydrated and pass out. It happens a lot at Disney. I had a rule of making sure I was drinking water or something with electrolytes every 30 mins. If you hate Florida water I suggest buying a filtered water bottle, they help a lot! Also remember all Quick Service locations will give you a free cup of ice water. Some are filtered and some aren't but they are more refreshing than the water fountains. If I started to feel shaky or faint I would instantly find a place in AC or shade to sit and drink more. Also Disney snacks are of course amazing but expensive, if possible I recommend bringing tiny snacks like crackers, granola bars, gummies or anything to assist you with hunger. Also Disney popcorn buckets are a lifesaver (cheaper refills) especially if you craved popcorn like me haha! Also be prepared to want to eat anything if you go during one of Epcot's festivals! I was pregnant during all 4 festivals and I wanted everything after the first-trimester sickness.

Also if you are on a vacation or staycation where you are constantly hitting the parks daily I would recommend afternoon breaks at your Resort is also a big refresher! With Talia we didn't need to do this since we would only go once or twice a week and not for the entire day. When we did the two trips while Pregnant with Jace we did this often. I was around 14 weeks then 23 weeks when we went. During our trip when I was 23 weeks I was getting tired so easily and we were staying at Art of Animation. We would take mid-afternoon breaks where we would either just sit in the room relaxing/napping or chilling by the pool for a bit. Their pool is amazing but that is also a different blog in itself. This would get you nice a refreshed to take on the parks at night. Plus perfect time to change and shower. Preferred rooms while pregnant also rock! We at the Finding Nemo Suites, these were the closest to the lobby, food court and buses and now Skyliner.

Worried about buses and standing? Honestly this was a fear of mine. I am already super clumsy and I hate standing on buses already but it is worse while pregnant of course. I would say around 98% of the time where it was standing room only someone always gave up a seat for me to sit. Also we have opted to wait for the next bus where we would tell the driver or transportation cm and they would have us step aside to let others on then we would be in front of the line. The Skyliner you are not allowed to stand so you will not need to worry about that. Skyliner to me also is more efficient to Epcot and Studios if you are staying at a Skyliner resort (Riveria, Caribbean Beach, Pop Century, and Art of Animation).

Are you having a park day where you won't be going back to a resort or anywhere and worried? This is also completely doable! Just know the great resting spots and rides to relax on for that break. Of course the baby center is great as I mentioned for this. Also when you are eating at a full service or quick services, this is a great time to kick up your feet and relax for a bit. I know I spent longer times at some QS locations just relaxing before. It is better with the AC locations. For example, we went to Andy's lunchbox at Toy Story Land which is all outdoor seating and standing tables, I honestly couldn't eat my food because I was so hot and felt sick. The food tasted great but just couldn't finish, I wish it was indoor seating or more fans and shade. That is only my personal opinion. Other locations are shows. Some examples are Festival of the Lion King, Nemo the Musical, Little Mermaid, Disney Junior, etc are great. They are all in AC and a decent amount of time to relax and have great entertainment! Also any other shows/attractions like Carousel of Progress, The American Adventure, Hall of Presidents, etc. These are also great napping places if you're exhausted. I love Carousel of Progress, it's one of my favorites but when you are pregnant and tired you just cannot help it! I will get into rides in another post as well later on.

If you feel like you are overheating just stepping into a gift shop with AC will help. I cannot count how many times I would just go into a gift shop and wander just to get cooled off and refreshed. Park benches in the shade also are great of course, yes its outside, but when you need to just sit for a moment they are wonderful. Near the ending of Talia's pregnancy I probably honestly spent more time sitting than walking around the parks. We would sit probably every 15 minutes for about 5-10 minutes then walk again.

If you are worried about doing Disney while pregnant do not worry at all! It is completely doable especially when you pace yourself! Plus all the adorable photos you will get while there! Also never be afraid to rent a wheelchair because you feel like you can't walk the entire time. I have rented wheelchairs while pregnant with Talia. It helped a lot of those days I wasn't feeling all that hot with walking. Never over push yourself.
